Again, Bazaar Art Jakarta was held. This year is third performing for this great art exhibition. One uniqueness of this event is that it was held in a hotel and mall, The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Pacific Place. Bazaar Art Jakarta that was presented in the ballroom of The Ritz-Carlton, in August 4-7, is really one package with Mall Art that has been taking  a place in all area of Pacific Place mall, in July 24 – August 15, 2011.

The staging of art exhibition in a mall area is relative new in Indonesia. Not same as a conventional art exhibition, which the audiences are certain element of societies, the art exhibition in a mall can attract more people from many kind of societies. So, this event can be  a way to increase the art appreciation of society generally. Most Indonesian people may not know that there are many Indonesian artists which have international reputation recently such as Heri Dono, Entang Wiharso, Agus Suwage, or  Made Wianto. We may just know the famous artists like as Affandi or Raden Saleh. From this point of view Bazaar Art Jakarta is interesting.

Besides it, Bazaar Art Jakarta can be one of indicators of Indonesian art development. In this event there were more than 20 art galleries involved with hundreds art works were displayed. Andi’s gallery, for instance, presented arts of Affandi, Srihadi Soedarsono, Sunaryo, Poleng Rediasa and Irwanto Lentho. Edwin’s gallery showed Nyoman Nuarta’s, Edi Sunaryo’s works and some artist’s works. Semarang gallery displayed some art works of Haris Purnomo, Wimo Ambalang Bayang, and Agapetus Kristiandana. Umah Seni performed Tommy Tanggara’s and Arief Pristianto’s works. Besides  paintings, the art works here were also sculptures, installation  and video arts.

“Barong”, (2002), acrylic on canvas, 150×200 cm, by Sunaryo.

Not only from Indonesia, the galleries were also from foreign such as South Korea and Singapore. Next year the chance for involvement of foreign galleries may be wider. So, Bazaar Art Jakarta will present not only Indonesian art works, but also Asian contemporary art works such as Chinese or Japanese  contemporary arts with their uniqueness. In this context we can hope this event will be one of indicators for development of Asian art works.

In this event there was also participation of   art auctioneer such as Shoteby’s which presented some works from old master like as Affandi, S Sudjojono, and Lee Man Fong.
